Megara Summer Dress – My Secret Honey “I Won’t Say” Onepiece
Today I would like to talk about my Secret Honey “I Won’t Say” onepiece, which is based on Megaras dress in Disney’s “Hercules”.
I decided to add detailed posts about some of the dresses in my collection, because I really love them. Most of them are like art to me, I love the quality, I love all the details and I’m overall a Disney lover, so here you are.
I am going to post one dress a month and I’ll also try to choose them according to the season. We are starting with a summer dress therefore, eventhough I would not wear it in summer, I do not want to destroy it with my sweat… Since this is the first time talking about the brand, let me introduce them to you first:
Secret Honey
Secret Honey is a Japanese brand that has an ongoing Disney Collection since 2013 I believe, they started with a Mickey/Minney Mouse Collection and then released several collections in 2014, amongst them their first Frozen collection. This is also the year I started collecting their dresses. I came in touch with the brand on my first Sunday in Fukuoka, when we decided to go shopping in Tenjin Core. I bought my first dress in September, it was the first Frozen Dress Secret Honey released, I still have that one, it is very special to me and I am going to talk about it in one of my winter posts.
The dresses are all licensed and they are (since 2017 I believe) divided into the more “casual” ones and their “Halloween” Dresses (which should just be called “Cosplay” because that’s what they are and they release them all year round).
Their dresses have gotten quite expensive (my first dress was around 100$, now they start with 150$) but there’s the possibility of getting untagged dresses, which means that the dresses are factory overrun products that are sold at a lower price.
How to Get the Dresses
Some of my dresses are Originals, some are factory overrun products / untagged dresses. I normally purchase my dresses 3 different ways:
- Buy them myself directly from the source and use a shipping company like tenso.com to get the dresses here;
- Use a shopping service like Personal Shopper Japan. They take a percentage of the cost as their salary but handle the purchase as well as shipping for you;
- Or I buy over a personal shopper on Instagram, I like Celeste Disneyboutique and Hana Castlestore a lot.
The Dress
Ok, now on to the dress I want to show and talk a bit more in detail about today: My Secret Honey “I Won’t Say” Megara onepiece. They usually name their dresses after songs in the movies, which I find cute. Btw, the lilac shade on the following two pictures is pretty accurate, but it differs for the other photos (it was really hard to get it right, even with editing). Here it is:
This dress is a maxidress and I’d say it fits up to a german 38 or size M (there is shirring in the back, but theres not too much room in the bust area). I wear 36/38 and it fits. Since I am quite tall (174 cm), the dress does not cover my ankles. Also the straps, while being adjustable, are a bit short even on maximum length. If you wear the straps at their longest, the chiffon that lays on top will be lifted in the back, meaning that it’s not connected to the back of the dress anymore, which is a bit odd. You can see it on this picture of the back:
This dress has four elements that I absolutely love:
- The straps! Such beautiful details and beadwork and it looks so much like the dress in the movie.
- The Waistband!
- The greek elements incorporated like vases, lyres and pillars.
- The print around the hem with scenes from the movie.
The Straps
I’ve already talked about the straps a bit, so here they are:
I love the way the chiffon is “pleated”, it is a very interesting element of the dress that is repeated below the waistband. It reminds me a lot of all the folds you find in greek dresses. I also love the beading (it is not beaded all around, so the beads wont scratch you). It looks like a temple floor or something like that.
I mentioned the way the straps are constructed above already. You can adjust the them to a certain extent and the chiffon layer can also be pulled through the beaded tubes, but it will lift the chiffon layer in the back. The dress has shirring there as well and is fully lined.
The Waistband
The waistband is another highlight. You can see that there is a layer with some of the characters profiles, it looks like painted on vases. You also have piping and some nice trim on both sides. The chiffon overlayer of the dress is again pleated/gathered in tiny folds.
Vases, Temples and More
The chiffon overlayer does have an interesting pattern built from different elements from Greek culture but also the movie. You can see it above as a whole, but I am also going to show you some details in the following pictures.
Here we have some lovely vases. At the bottom you can also see that there would be another row of vases.
Here we have something, that could be a temple and again, a row built from vases and what I’d call shells…? Also: The Moirae! I love them and I’m very happy that they are on this dress. Also noticed the “H” in the upper row? I love how many details and thought they put into these dresses.
The Print
And now: The prints around the hem. These are a common feature in Secret Honey’s dresses, recently they started to use them less frequently though and instead use elements as embroidery or sequins etc. Around the hem you have 6 different motives as well as one placed a bit higher on the skirt. The prints are repeated, except for the one higher on the skirt, but you have the same prints on the back and on the front.
Here for example we have the scene that gave the dress it’s name 🙂
This is the picture that is placed higher on the dress. You can see that the pattern on the dress stops there the prints are all on a plain very light lilac background. You also see some lyres, again, nice elements from greek culture.
And I saved my favourite for last: Hades. I love that he is also on this dress, he’s my favourite character in the movie 🙂
And that is it! Let me know if I should show my Secret Honey dresses in a different way etc. or whatever it is you think.
PS: In my last post, I talked about the KIKO Green Me Eyeshadow Palette in 102 Feisty Saffron that is currently on sale. Spoiler: I really like it, eventhough some of the shimmers need some work and there’s not really a highlight shade 😉
