Secret Honey Aurora Costume
Hello everyone, welcome back to another post. Today, I would like to show you this beautiful Aurora Costume from Secret Honey. This is the first version of Aurora’s (pink or) blue dress from 2016. I love this version very much but it is incredibly small unfortunately. But I found a good home for it since it will probably never fit me comfortably 🙂
I showcase one of my Disney pieces every two weeks, you can check out my other posts if you like. Last time I showed you my Secret Honey Aurora Greeting Dress.
If you would like to know more about the brand and about how you can get these dresses, I have got you covered in this post. I also sometimes sell dresses from my collection, check out my shop or my Instagram, I usually list them there.
The Aurora Costume
As always, I will not torture you with the details first, but show you the dress in full glory 🙂 Here it is on my dress form. There is a hoop skirt underneath, I think the circumference is like two metres. I do like it but I am not sure if this is the best that the dress can look 🙂

I do have a picture of the dress without a hoop skirt. Technically, I think that would be ok, it is nice as well 🙂

Here is a picture of the dress from the side. From the front and back I think this hoop skirt is right, but from the side I am not 100 % convinced…

The dress consists of an underdress with the bodice over it btw 🙂 Here it is from the back:

The Underdress
Let us start with the underdress. It is sleeveless, of course, so it won’t be visible beneath the bodice 🙂 There are loops to attach invisible straps. But the bodice does hold up by itself perfectly, it is very structured. There are bones in the front in the princess seams as well as in the back:

On the sides we do have a shirring panel with a lace up detail. What is interesting is that the shirring does not extend to the waistband. Which makes it basically useless. Why is there shirring but a solid small waistband oO

In the back, the underdress closes with a hidden zipper:

Sizing and Closure
Here is a close up of the back. I already mentioned, that the shirring does not extend to the waistband. Which makes this underdress incredibly small. Around 70 cm in the waist.

Here is a closer look.

Haha, I think, it was very important to me when I took the pictures. So here you can enjoy the waistband one more time 😉

Boning and Straps
As we already mentioned, the bodice is very structured. The princess seams in the front are boned and so are two seams in the back.

Here are the little loop where you can add invisible bra straps to in case you need more support. But really, it holds up very well, unless you have a bigger bust, you will probably not need the straps:

The Skirt
The skirt does have a few pretty pleats 🙂 The fabric does look like a dupioni silk and has a nice shine, it does not look cheap at all. That was very important to me and why I chose this version over others. Btw. did I mention that this was the first version of this dress Secret Honey did? It was released in October 2016 for 29000 yen plus taxes. Of course in both, pink and blue 🙂

Here is a closer look at the fabric type. Looks like dupioni, unfortunately it is polyester like all of SH’s costumes. That is the one thing I would love that they had changed. I would have paid 500 dollars for this if only the fabric were organic. Would be so much nicer to wear than basically plastic. And that goes for all SH dresses. Sometimes there is a liiiiittle bit of cotton in the blend but usually it is straight up polyester. Which is why I do not wear a lot of SH in summer.

The underdress is of course completely lined 🙂 Like usually with Secret Honey.

The Bodice
Now, the star of the dress, the absolutely gorgeous bodice. There is embroidery, lace, trims, jacquard and so much more. There are three bones in the front of the bodice and two next to the shirring panel in the back, so again, a lot of structure:

Sizing and Closure
The bodice actually is bigger than the underdress. So, you could sew your own dress and wear the bodice with. It is, surprisingly, big enough for my shoulders, which means something (I used to be a swimmer, we have very broad shoulders. And I am tall, so they are even broader ;)). In the back there is a shirring panel and as you can see on this photo, there is still room in the bust and also around the waist (maybe 72 to 74 cm?).

I like that the shirring panel extends up to the shoulder piece. And Secret Honey even made it pretty by adding some lace.

The bodice closes with hidden zippers on both sides. The zippers do not open all the way down though:

The Embroidery
There is golden embroidery of roses at the top and centre of the blue part of the bodice. It extends down almost to the waistband:

Here is a close up of the top of the embroidery:

But that is not the only embroidery. At the cuffs of the mesh sleeves, there is more to discover:

The Shoulders
I will call this the shoulder piece going on because I have no idea what other term to use for these things. They are very structured, there are bones in the top of the pieces and the fabric used for them is very sturdy and also double layered. In regular distance, there are vertical bones to hold the pieces up and keep them from wrinkling.

I love the laces and trims used to decorate the shoulder pieces. The flower lace is very pretty. The golden trim looks like a completely different gold colour to the trim used on the bodice on these photos, but it isn’t, it actually matches so nicely!

Here’s a closer look at the jacquard used for the shoulder pieces:

Here’s a look at the sides. The trim is simply folded, no pattern matching of the fabric. But these are my standards for my own projects, so I won’t apply them to a dress sewn in a factory 🙂 It still looks decent.

The Waist
Another piece I do not know how to call 😛 I will call it waist band. Made from a blue fabric that has a beautiful shimmer, unfortunately it is not really transferring on camera. It has like very thin silver threads woven into it or something?

It seems I also wanted to show you the point of the bodice 😉 It looks very nicely finished. You can see the texture of the fabric used for the waistband, but not the silver sheen:

The waistband is beautifully embroidered in silver 🙂

Unfortunately the embroidery is only in the front of the bodice. No embroidery in the back.

The Jaquard
Last but not least, I want to give you a close up of the jacquard used for the bodice. It is nice and textured and has a nice sheen in some parts. Secret Honey used both sides of the jacquard for the bodice. In the centre front with the embroidery, they used one side, for the other parts of the bodice they flipped the fabric to the other side. Such a cool detail and it is not unique, Secret Honey does that often and it adds so much interest without having to use a completely different fabric.

The Jewellery
I also got a set of jewellery from Taobao to go with the costume. It is very similar to Secret Honey, but not the set from Secret Honey. Both, this one and SH’s were up for preorder and I decided for this one because in the photos, it looked rose golden and I really liked that. Turns out, it is not rose golden at all ^^’ But closer to the movie I guess.

The Tiara
Please enjoy Koumori without a drop of make up (also no filters or fancy editing, I never do that, it is an honour to age and I will enjoy every wrinkle I get) 😉 I thought I should model the tiara for you. It is really pretty but honestly, I have no idea how you are meant to attach this thing to your head. The only thing holding it up in this photo is a heart full of hope and no breathing 😛

It is nice and detailed, there is this golden pattern that does remind me of rose tendrils with thorns. There are also gems in different sizes:

Here is the situation on the back of the tiara. Please, tell me in the comments what these combs are meant to do. They move, how are they supposed to keep that tiara up? I don’t understand. Am I supposed to use bobby pins in the other little rings?

It moves, why? 😛

But, it is really, really pretty.

One last look, this time at the side of the tiara.

The Necklace
The necklace is done in the same style as the tiara. I did not model it for you, don’t ask me why. It just did not cross my mind. We can’t think of everything 🙂

Here it is from the back on the floor.

A closer look at the plate:

And a little close up of the centre front gem.

And that is already everything that I wanted to show you about this 2016 Aurora Costume. I will always be team blue! Never liked pink and probably never will. The only colour I dislike more is orange ^^’ But for all of you who do like the pink, there is a pink version of this dress 🙂 I wonder if the sheen of the pink dress will be golden instead of silver.
Thanks a lot for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed having a look at all the details of this beautiful Aurora Costume. I wish you a good one and hopefully see you in my next post 🙂
Love
Ella
